The “legend” in “legendary,” Funk won NWA World Heavyweight Title in 1975 from Jack Brisco and held the belt for 14 months before dropping it to Harley Race. After a stint in Hollywood, most memorably in the Patrick Swayze movie “Roadhouse,” Funk returned to feud with another NWA Champ, Ric Flair, before going hardcore late in his career, with a long run in ECW and WCW. He continues to wow crowds on the independent circuit with his penchant for dishing out and absorbing pain.
