Alex Silva: ‘If you hate me, good for you’

Alex Silva grew up in wrestling, literally. His father was a wrestler, and at 13 Alex decided that he wanted to make a go of wrestling as a career.

He was like a lot of kids in that respect. He was unlike a lot of kids in that he had his first pro match at 14, and that by age 16 he was on the road working shows with the big boys.

“I had no money, so it was really hard,” said Silva, who learned at the feet of Ohio Valley Wrestling’s Rip Rogers and Awesome Wrestling Entertainment’s Micah Fletcher.

Rogers imparted lessons on how to interact with fans and how to tell a story in the ring, “and how to be a superstar, which I am,” said Silva, the current OVW TV champion, with a smile.

From Fletcher, Silva learned the business side of wrestling, and how to manage life on the road.

Life on the road is the tough part to the business.

“Food-wise, it’s really hard. If you have no choice, you have to eat McDonald’s. It’s cheap, but it’s bad for you. It’s easy to find a gym. Every hotel has a gym. But sometimes you don’t get a hotel. You have to sleep in your car,” Silva said.

Easy to talk to outside the ring, Silva seems at his best inside the ring playing the part of heel. Watch his promos in particular. Silva is nothing if not slick with his biting comments.

“There’s good guys, there’s bad guys. I’m just myself all the time. So if you hate me, good for you, I guess. I don’t have anything to say about that,” Silva said.
